Our Story

A Century of
Excellence

The story of Imperial Cork is inseparable from the story of wine itself. Founded in 1922, we have navigated a century of transformation in the wine industry while upholding one immutable principle: only the finest stoppers deserve the Imperial Cork name.

From the cork oak — the most noble of Mediterranean ecosystems — to the world's most demanding wine cellars, every stopper we make carries decades of knowledge, technical precision and an uncompromising love for the perfect product.

From Cork Oak to Wine Cellar

Eleven Steps of
Absolute Precision

Our manufacturing process is a sequence of rigorously controlled operations, where each step determines the final quality of the stopper that reaches your cellar.

01

Plank Boiling

Cork planks are boiled twice to clean them, extract water-soluble substances, increase thickness and make the cork more supple and elastic.

02

Rest & Selection

A resting phase flattens the planks, followed by manual grading and separation by quality class before cutting into strips.

03

Punching & Drying

Strips are punched with a hollow drill to produce cylindrical stoppers. Dried to achieve optimal 4-8% humidity.

04

Dimensional Grinding

Grinding and polishing to achieve final specified dimensions with tolerances of ±0.5mm in length and ±0.4mm in diameter.

05

3D Electronic Selection

Each stopper is analysed by cutting-edge 3D electronic selection machines, complemented by manual selection, to guarantee correct quality grade.

06

H₂O₂ Washing

Automatic washing and disinfection with hydrogen peroxide to eliminate microorganisms. Rigorous microbiological control on every batch.

07

Custom Branding

Automatic ink or fire branding with the winery's logo, name, vintage or any graphic element specified. Your identity on every stopper.

08

Surface Treatment

Surface coating with silicone and paraffin blend to ease insertion and extraction, improve sealing and isolation. Vacuum packed with SO₂.
